CSEA Nassau Local 830 Declares a Contract Impasse with Nassau County

Mineola, NY—January 17, 2008— The Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA) Nassau Local 830, Nassau County’s largest public service union, has declared a contract impasse today with Nassau County.  CSEA demands that a mediator interject in the current contract negotiations.

CSEA’s five-year collective bargaining agreement with Nassau County expired on December 31, 2007 at midnight, and the county has yet to make any reasonable monetary offer, leaving CSEA with no other recourse than to declare an impasse.

CSEA Local 830 President Jerry Laricchiuta said in regards to this decision, “We feel that the hard-working CSEA membership deserves a fair, timely, and equitable contract.  By bringing in a third party mediator, we feel that we will be on the right track to ensuring that”

All details of the previous five-year contract agreement between the two parties have moved forward, with the exception of the “no-layoff clause,” which sunset on December 31.

CSEA is New York’s leading union representing 265,000 members statewide, 50,000 on Long Island, and 10,000 in Local 830, between Nassau County and the Nassau Health Care Corporation.
